Writing and Drinking

I used to think that drinking and writing were a marriage made in literature heaven. If you look at all the greats, alcohol was somewhere nearby. Parker, Bukowski, Hemmingway, Fitzgerald, Capote, Thomas. Alcohol soaked fingers fueled their words and their downfall. Would they be just as great without the booze?

I toyed with that question as a teen. Could I be a great writer without being a drunk? I didn’t think so being an…
